Life in the Summa shed has finally returned to normality. The tour went without a hitch after the initial cancellations and re-bookings. We played half a tour with Solitude and half with Blood of the Enemy, both amazing bands and great guys. Unfortunately the Blood of the Enemy boys have called it a day after these last shows. It was an honour to play with them and hopefully hooking up with them in any future projects they start up.
We are playing The Joiners in Southampton with ‘The Red Chord’, ‘From a Second Story Window’ and ‘Architects’ on the 20th of May. If you’ve not heard of these guys yet you’ve obviously been avoiding tech metal for the last few years! Safe to say we’re looking forward to these shows.
As well as gigs, we’ve had a couple of reviews come in. Both great, here are a couple of review quotes from them:
“Every track builds on the one before it. This is experimentation in its purest and simplest form and is often where brilliance originates.” –
Planet Loud
"Eccoci quindi giunti a metà del viaggio chiamato Summa. “Hasselhoff Vs Bunnell” colpisce subito duro, le chitarre sono ancor più robuste e corpose; il basso si pone in risalto in più di un’occasione, nitido e pieno." -
Shapeless 'Zine
As you can see, the second is in Italian, chuck the whole thing through an internet translator and enjoy the comedy!! They gave the new CD 8 out of 10.
The new mini album (EP) will be in the shops shortly we are assured by the guys at Manmade Records. They had a couple of issues getting it sent out. These things always take time but now we are expecting that and reviews from the major magazines as well as the reviews that will come in slowly from the online zines. Look out for us playing live agin in July with the superb ‘
Last Chance at Rampton’ from Birmingham!
Our new mini-album is OUT NOW through Manmade Records!!
After a long wait we are pleased to say the new CD is available to buy. It's not quite in the shops yet but you can order it online from the
Manmade Records website.
We are now playing shows regularly and will be touring with our friends Solitude in March. The CD is also making its way to promoters, radio stations and reviewers, so fingers crossed they will like it too.
The current gigs for the beginning of the year are listed in the live section and the tour dates will be announced as soon as all the dates are confirmed. You can also hear the latest by joining up to the
mailing list.
You can pick up the new CD at www.manmaderecords.co.uk and we will be getting it into the shops in time for the tour!!
Thanks for sticking with us over the last couple of years your support is greatly appreciated. We’ll see you soon at the shows.
More gigs confirmed and our first (unauthorised) review...
We're still at it trying to get this CD out!! It will feature the video to Slight Right, all going to plan, as well as noise made especially for this release by The Mylar Blackout. We're very excited about what you're all going to think of it when it's out. We will be announcing the full release details within the next couple of months.
In the meantime we've put up the new version of 'Slight Right' on our myspace along with a new track that will be on the EP: 'Divergent Address'. Go to
www.myspace.com/summametal to hear those and see what you think of the sound. We have also stumbled across getting a review. The CD was sent to these guys to get a gig, but they wanted to review it too. The review is of three tracks from an early mix, not the final EP. So here is a quote from it... "[This CD] is uncompromising stuff to say the least! Think of the technical wizardry of Sikth/Dillinger Escape Plan, and add the combined girth of a column of Challenger tanks, then you have the crushingly brutal maelstrom that is Summa." -
Atakat Sunrise
Nice!
We've got a few gigs coming up in the next few weeks and we will be selling early preview CDs at these gigs. We're not pressing many of these so come along to the shows and pick one up. We'll be letting you all know as soon as the release date for the new EP is confirmed. But it will be soon...
Thanks for staying up to date.
The CD is FINALLY coming along!!!
Yes, at last!! It's been over two months that we haven't sent out an update. Everything got depressingly quiet on the Summa front. But, thankfully, that is all about to change. The new CD that we've been promising you for nearly a year now is nearly finished. It's been a long and frustrating time for us. But after hearing the near complete tracks we can safely say that the time and torment have been worth it. The CD is being remixed and mastered by John Tyrell from Interlock/Deep Water Productions. He's really brought the sound alive. We're in talks about the CD release and will give you specifics when we've got definite details. But everything should turn out quite well on that front.
In other news, we're planning a small tour in August, just a few dates to get us on top of our game again, but coordinating efforts with promoters is proving difficult, to put it politely, so we'll still be doing some of the dates we've put aside to tour and we'll also be doing quite a few individual gigs. Check the site's live section for updates as they happen. We're also in the final editing stages of a music video to Slight Right that you've all heard by now.
Life is sweet again after several months of trials. But we've got new songs and we're booking gigs again like a good band should. We need help promoting our out of town gigs, so any of you that are in the areas we're playing, please reply to liam@wearesumma.com and we can sort out getting you in the gig in return for throwing fliers and stuff at people. Thanks for staying up to date with our band's life, the support is greatly appreciated. See you at the gigs.
More CD delays!!!!!
That's right. Sorry about this guys, our CD release is seeing more delays. What we can let you know is that we're talking to a producer to remix and master the CD to a higher standard. So it's taking more time but will sound better for it at the end. Which is nice. So where the plan was to get the CD out and then start gigs, we've started gigging again and will have the CD coming out in the second half of the year. Frustrating we know, but we're really happy with the CD and it's going to be great to give it the polish and shine it deserves.
We played a small gig in Bournemouth to get us geared up for the year, we'll be booking more and plan to go on tour again in August, that way when we're camping in random fields it won't be so cold like it was in October last year. We're on the case of getting promos out to promoters at the moment so if you can put us on, send us an email. We're writing new songs, some of which we'll be playing at the coming gigs. We're trying out different writing styles, which is great for our music, but it is taking longer than usual, so you'll just have to wait and see how the songs turn out. We've got a few gigs booked for the coming months already, so keep checking the live section to see where we're playing next.
Big thanks to the promoters and bands that have helped us getting shows.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Happy New Year and all that. As usual we have been slow on updates but we have been busy, really! It seems such a long time ago now but we did a small tour last October where we had a great time and want to thank all of the guys that helped us with gigs and the people that came along to see us play. Apart from playing some great shows we camped in fields, to get woken by the sounds of barking dogs, shotgun blasts and farmers moving us on. We laid waste to many motorway services, met some great people and drank far too much alcohol. We had a great time!! Highlights will hopefully be on here in video to download sometime later this year. A special thank you to the boys of
Blood Of The Enemy and Dom from
Chalk Inc. Safe to say we'll be doing it again!
We're into 2006 already and we were supposed to have the new CD out by now but things, as they often do, have turned out differently. Due to contractual problems the new CD will now not be coming out until further notice. We have to wait and see what response we get from the record label.
The plan now, is to start gigging again, the good news is we've been working on some new songs in this time and although the new CD isn't out yet, we'll have new tracks to play when we start doing shows again. Also, we've put a couple of clips from the new CD up on the website and on our MySpace page for you all to sample. If any of you are interested in helping with fliering gigs and putting out posters and promos, leave a message and we'll be in touch. Take it easy and enjoy the New Year everyone.
The new EP and the tour...
We haven't had an update in quite a while we know. So here's what's been going on....
The new EP is finished!! At last, we've worked hard and it's taken a long time but we're done. It's mixed and mastered, the artwork is now finalised after a lot of arguing and it goes to press on Monday. So now we're just waiting for the return and we'll be getting them off to the distro. Unfortunately we've not been able to get it ready in time for the tour, but that's how it is, we had to make sure it was done, and it took a little longer than we hoped. But we're very happy with the way it's turned out and we're looking forward to seeing what you guys think of it. The CD will be available from us at gigs as of November and will be hitting the shops at the end of that month.
We're doing a small UK tour, we'll be playing Brighton, Bournemouth, Leeds, Birmingham, Coventry and Soutampton. The dates are in the
live section. If you live in or near these places come and say hi, the bands we are playing with are all amazing bands and we're really lucky to have been set up with them, some of them from overseas. Let it Die and Champion from the US, To Kill from Italy and I Killed the Prom Queen from Australia. Organising the tour has been done by Dom of Chalk Ink, big thanks to him. If any of you can help promote the gig the tour flier from the front page can be printed off in black and white just fine.
We're very excited about the gigs and about the new CD coming out and hope you all like them as much as us. See you at the shows.
Welcome to the new Summa website
First and foremost, check out the audio section. Done? Good.
So we came and played our first shows and they went down a treat! Now we're working on the new CD. We've done our first sessions in the studio, the drum tracks, the bass tracks and most of the guitar and vocal tracks are down. A few more weeks and we'll have the last bits recorded, and the whole thing mixed and mastered!! We're very excited about the new songs on this CD as those of you who came to the shows recently will have seen. So while we work on the new CD we're not gigging a great deal, we've got one in Southampton with our good friends "Until Summer" as part of their August UK tour and one at home in September on the Chalk Ink homecoming weekender!! That's it until the tour in October, as soon as we've got dates confirmed they'll be up on the site.
We are setting up a street team to help us get people to the gigs all over the country. We are looking for people that can help with online promotion as well as giving out fliers and CDs when we've got gigs in their areas. The street team will be organised by ourselves and our good friend Big Matt, our long time roady and band support from god knows when. There will be a new street team area on the new site soon, we'll be maintaining communication through emails until then. If you're interested in joining us we'll be getting people that genuinely help us free entry to shows and free stuff when we've got it. Send an email to
to get onboard. As always, if you're on mySpace add us to your friends list www.mySpace.com/summametal
Hope you all enjoy the single track promo, see you at the shows.
